YARMOUTH (WGME) -- Yarmouth Police went above and beyond the call of duty to save a raccoon from drowning in a storm drain.

Police say they responded to Bennett Road in Yarmouth Monday night after a concerned citizen found the animal stuck in a catch basin.
Police say they were concerned that if the raccoon was left unattended, it would drown.
With the assistance of Yarmouth Public Works and a dog pole from the Cumberland Police Department, officers were able to remove the raccoon from the drain.

The raccoon then ran off into the woods.
