Liz Cheney is ‘not choosy’ about having liberal Democrats among her fans

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has welcomed her newfound supporters in the Democratic Party because she is “not choosy” about who supports her lately.

Cheney joked about her new “fans” during an event at Syracuse University when Provost Gretchen Ritter asked her, “How painful is it to have liberal Democrats in your fan club,” according to the Hill.

“I’m not choosy these days,” Cheney said, laughing at her joke with others in the crowd.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), the vice chairwoman of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, speaks with reporters as she walks to the House chamber during final votes at the Capitol in Washington, Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. Cheney has received praise for criticizing former President Donald Trump.

The lifelong Republican, who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, lost her House GOP primary election in August to Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman. Before the primary election, Cheney sent instructions to Wyoming Democratic voters on how to switch their political parties amid tough opposition from her opponent.

A week prior to the primary, Reps. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) praised Cheney for putting country and principle before politics and encouraged Democratic voters to consider “temporarily switching parties” to help her fend off her primary challenger.

In September, Cheney said she will renounce her membership in the GOP if Trump is the party’s nominee in 2024. When asked last month if she would consider running for president to prevent Trump’s return to the White House, Cheney reiterated her commitment to preventing the former president from ever returning to the Oval Office but declined to give a straight answer to the question.
