House fire under investigation in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Fire Department is investigating a house fire that left one firefighter with minor injuries Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to the 2000 block of Elmer Street just after 7:15 a.m. They found flames coming through the roof of the home, but were able to quickly knock out the blaze.

No one was found in or around the property. Battalion Chief Mike Szucs tells 16 News Now that renovations may have been underway at the home.

One firefighter injured his knee during the response and was treated at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
