Former UNI Student Sentenced to Probation

A former UNI student has been sentenced to probation for damaging a water pipe that flooded Bender Hall last year, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 19 year old Ethan Wise of Cedar Rapids received a deferred judgment to the charge of first degree Criminal Mischief. He admitted he had been drinking when he purposefully damaged the pipe. The water seeped into the floors below. Part of the building had to be evacuated and 10 students were temporarily relocated. Wise must also pay the university nearly $100,000 to cover the damages. The judge said Wise’s age and lack of a criminal record played a role in his sentence.
