Austin Theory Explains Why He Actually Still Enjoys Being Called ‘Theory’

Under the new Triple H regime, a few WWE Superstars have received their first names back. One of them is Austin Theory, who originally debuted with his full name but was then switched to just “Theory” when Vince McMahon was still in charge.

As we reported earlier here on eWn, when the name change initially occurred, it was said that McMahon’s rationale was to drop the “Austin” part of the name because fans already knew “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. In short, McMahon felt there could only be one “Austin.” Ironically enough, Austin Theory shared a similar sentiment while explaining why he still likes being referred to as “Theory.”

During a recent appearance on the “WrestleRant” podcast, Theory pointed out how Googling “Austin” would garner results for the WWE Hall of Famer, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, as opposed to him. Like McMahon, Theory wants to be in a lane of his own as it pertains to names.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the return of his first name: “There’s a bunch of things being said, but to me, I actually like Theory. I really do like it.”

On his initial reaction to becoming ‘Theory’: “It’s one of those things at first where you’re like, ‘Ah!,’ you know. But for me, Austin is my real first name. And Austin Theory’s what I’ve always said in promos. Even sometimes too, I’ll do podcasts and catch myself saying Austin Theory. But for me, I really feel like if somebody was to look up WWE and look up Austin — we all know that Stone Cold is probably going to pop up first. I’d rather you put ‘Theory WWE’ [in Google], there’s only one. So, for me, I personally really enjoy being Theory.”
