Was this Coolio's real cause of death?
Coolio's manager, Jarez Posey, confirmed that the rapper died on Wednesday at the age of 59. Details about his cause of death were not made available to the public, but Los Angeles Fire Department's Capt. Erik Scott said that firefighters and paramedics were called to the 2900 block of South Chesapeake Ave. after receiving reports about a medical emergency.
They performed CPR on the unresponsive male for 45 minutes, but he was declared dead minutes later.
Although Posey eventually told news outlets, including NBC News, that Coolio died of an apparent heart attack, the rapper's friends believed it was contributed by something else.
Coolio's Cause of Death
Coolio's pals recently told a news outlet that the rapper struggled with asthma for years leading to his death. Investigators also shared the same sentiment with the same source, saying they were looking into his history with the condition.
This could be proven by the inhalers he always brought whenever he was traveling to prepare himself if episodes would occur. He often used them during his performances, as well.
According to the American Heart Association, patients with asthma have a higher risk of developing a heart condition known as atrial fibrillation.
"We initially suspected that the link between asthma and atrial fibrillation may be explained by high levels of common inflammation markers in the blood at the baseline of the study," assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Dr. Matthew Tattersall, explained.
Indeed, Coolio had an asthma attack while performing in 2016, according to Page Six. During his show at Hill Country Barbecue Market in Brooklyn, a fan helped him get through it by providing him with an inhaler.

In a 2002 interview with USA Today, he also revealed that he suffered a few asthma episodes that were too serious that he could have died. Coolio reportedly realized he had a chronic disease he needed to undergo treatment for as long as possible.
Amid his health issues, his death was also bombarded with talks about drugs as some insisted he died due to overdose. However, he knew he would die if he took cocaine again since his body was no longer used to it.
The rapper added that only a few people knew he was taking cocaine as he never talked about it publicly.
