Emaciated dogs rescued and recovering at HSPPR, owner charged

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two dogs in Colorado Springs have a new lease on life thanks to the work of local Animal Law Enforcement and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR).

The HSPPR said they received a tip recently about two dogs living in unsanitary conditions in Colorado Springs. When Animal Law Enforcement went to the home to investigate, they found a house will a strong smell of ammonia and fecal matter on the floors and walls. Both dogs were kept in crates and were standing in their own urine and feces. The dogs had no access to water and were both extremely underweight.

Animal Law Enforcement spoke to the owners and they agreed to surrender the dogs to the HSPPR. The owner was then charged with four counts of cruelty towards animals.

The HSPPR said that once they got the dogs back to their facility, a pound of fur filled with objects and feces was shaved off of one of the dogs.

Both dogs have been put on a refeeding plan to help them gain weight and the HSPPR said they are both doing much better. The dogs are not ready to be adopted yet, but will be soon.
