Smith, Larry Dexter

Larry Dexter Smith, age 71, was called home to heaven on October 2nd, 2022. Larry was a 1973 graduate of Virginia Tech and spent most of his professional career as a Mechanical Engineer for VA Tech Facilities. He was a dedicated Hokie fan.

He blessed so many with his music and was a lifelong member of Fairview Community Church. He was a member of the group, Heaven Bound and loved playing with them. Larry was a friend to all who met him. He was such a generous and special person. Heaven has surely gained a special angel.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and H.M. Smith, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, David Smith, Randy Smith (and fiancé Teresa Farley and daughter Sydney Farley) sister, Marsha Caldwell and husband Philip Caldwell and special niece, Amanda Caldwell. Many cousins, family and friends are left to cherish his memory including special friends Roger Averhart and Teresa Woolwine.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmie Lee Price and Dennis Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 PM prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, Virginia.
