Paul Chryst buyout: Wisconsin releases settlement figures following Chryst's firing

After an initial buyout was set at $20 million, both Wisconsin and former head coach Paul Chryst, who was fired Sunday, agreed to a lower buyout number. AD Chris McIntosh confirmed a settled buyout number was agreed to Sunday evening but declined to provide specifics.

On Monday, Jeff Potrykus with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on the settlement announcement. Wisconsin will pay Chryst $11 million, due no later than Feb. 1, 2023. Funds will come from the UW Foundation and no taxpayer dollars will be spent.

The controversial firing comes after a 2-3 start to the season for Wisconsin. Chryst has led Wisconsin to a 67-26 record during his 7-year run with the Badgers.

Many other head coaches around the league have opened up about the firing and said it is both a bad look for football and not justified.

The Badgers will turn the page and look to get their season back on track on Saturday as they take on Northwestern.
