Public input sought on renovation of Colorado Springs Senior Center

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The City of Colorado Springs is seeking public input on planned renovations to its Senior Center.

The city launched a survey on Sept. 19 that is open through Oct. 11 for residents of Colorado Springs.

According to the city, the survey is primarily interested in opinions about the site location of the new center, which will remain on the same City-owned property, Golf Acres. There are currently four options where the new facility could be located on the property. The survey solicits input on those options, plus the criteria that are most important to respondents.

The Senior Center is owned by the city and operated through a partnership with the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. The city said the current facility is in need of significant repairs that will be made using $8 million from the American Rescue Plant Act (ARPA).

The groundbreaking for the new facility will be some time in 2023, with completion expected in late 2024.

A public meeting is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Senior Center for neighbors to learn more about the project.
