Teen dead, one other not expected to survive following carjacking

ST PETERSBURG, FL–
One teen is dead and two others are left with life-threatening and critical injuries following an early morning carjacking in Pinellas County.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the area regarding a carjacking in progress at 2998 58th Avenue North.
The K9 Unit, Flight Unit, and patrol deputies all responded to the scene in an effort to catch the suspect.
While the officers responded to the home, the Flight Unit witnessed three teens breaking into a 2016 Silver Maserati parked in a driveway near 62nd Avenue North and 28th Street North.
One of the teens, later identified as 15-year-old Keondrick Lang got into the driver’s seat while 16-year-old Malachi Daniels and 15-year-old Mario Bonilla got into the passenger seats.
When authorities approached the vehicle, the teens took off in the vehicle, driving over 80 mph.
At some point during the pursuit, the teen lost control of the vehicle, drove over a curb, and hit the business sign. The vehicle then flipped before coming to a rest.
Bonilla was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Daniels was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Lang was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
An investigation found that the owner of the vehicle left the vehicle parked in a driveway unlocked, with the keys inside.
The Sheriff’s office called this a “crime of opportunity,” during a press conference.
