How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor has landed his next project — the Michael Shannon-produced movie All Happy Families.

The comedy-drama movie follows the Landry family dealing with news about their son's behaviour and struggling to find a way to move forward amidst the comical family dysfunction.

It's unclear who is playing who as of yet, but Radnor is joined by Colleen Camp, John Ashton, Rob Huebel, and David Pasquesi in the movie. Pasquesi will be best known for his role as Mok Shaiz's Majordomo in The Book of Boba Fett.

The film will be directed by Haroula Rose, who previously directed Once Upon a River after working in the music department on films including Still Alice. The film will be co-written by Rose and actor Coburn Goss, who is best known for his role as Father Leone in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The title of the movie comes from the principle found in Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel Anna Karenina. The first line of the novel begins: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Similarly, an episode of Sopranos with the same name also utilised this concept.

Michael Shannon, who has starred in several notable movies including Knives Out and The Shape of Water, will not star in the movie but will produce.

Radnor played Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother from 2005 to 2014 opposite Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan.

Radnor has gone on to star in several TV shows including Mercy Street, Rise, Centaurworld, and Hunters. His last movie was 2018's drama Social Animals, which followed a broke stoner trying to manage her failing business while falling in love with a married man, played by Radnor.
