Update: Gas leak, 3 explosions blamed for Chrisman housefire

CHRISMAN, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: A gas leak is being blamed for a series of explosions that caused substantial damage to a home in northern Edgar County Monday.

According to officials from the Chrisman Police Department, the gas leak in the home caused 3 explosions that caused the home to catch fire. The man who was home with his dog at the time is currently in a burn unit at a hospital. The dog was taken to an area veterinarian, and after treatment will be fostered until the owner is able to heal enough to care for the dog.

Original: An explosion led to a house fire, and caused a resident to be flown to an area hospital Monday afternoon in northern Edgar County.

According to Chrisman Police Chief Tom Dolan, the situation remains under investigation, but sometime around 12:45 p.m. a home located at the intersection of N. State Street and East Jefferson Avenue in Chrisman erupted in flames following what is being described as an explosion.

Chief Dolan said that one person was home at the time of the explosion and has been flown to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The incident remains under investigation, no word yet on what caused the explosion.
