Saint Mother Theodore Guerin remembered

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A large crowd gathered together to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.

Worshipers joined the Sisters of Providence for a special Mass Monday morning at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Feast Day’s namesake, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence back in October of 1840. Guerin was canonized in 2006 by the Catholic Church.

“It’s a very special thing that the church would lift up this woman from pioneer Indiana,” General Superior Sister Dawn Tomaszewski of the Sisters of Providence said. “It’s because she had a remarkable faith in God and that faith drew other women to her, drew other people to her.”

October 3rd has been designated as the Feast Day for Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.

“It’s not everybody who can say that they’re walking in the footsteps of a saint, and yet that’s what we proclaim today,” said Tomaszewski. “That we have the privilege and the blessing of her life, to kind of spur us on.”

Sisters of Providence invites the community to visit Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s shrine at any time.
