A two-alarm fire in Kelso brought a multi-agency response to battle the house fire Sunday night.
Fire officials say they were called to the 100 Block of Vision Drive Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
Residents told firefighters that a fire started in a garbage can and then spread to the house.
Residents were able to evacuate, but one man went back inside to retrieve his dog. The man suffered some smoke inhalation and mild burns to his feet, officials say.
Firefighters later were able to find the dog, take it out of the house, and treated the dog with oxygen.
The man received treatment at the scene but did not go to the hospital. Officials say one cat died from the fire.
Firefighters were not able to initially attack the fire as a power line had fallen in the driveway of the house.
The Cowlitz County Public Utility was able to cut power to the line and allow firefighters to battle the blaze.
Firefighters had the fire knocked down about twenty-five minutes after they were dispatched.
Officials say the fire is under investigation. Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, City of Longview Fire, and Cowlitz County Fire District 5 responded to the fire.
