YPSILANTI, MI – A man accused of killing a woman in a crash after fleeing a traffic stop in Ypsilanti is heading to trial.
Cushmeer Muhammad waived preliminary examination Sept. 20, sending his case to the Washtenaw County Trial Court for further criminal court proceedings, court records show.
Muhammad, 37, is accused of crashing a stolen vehicle into another vehicle minutes after fleeing a traffic stop by a police officer Feb. 11 along E. Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti.

The driver of the other vehicle, Elisabeth Jeannine Messer, 62, of Ypsilanti, was killed in the crash.
Information about the incident was release by Ypsilanti city officials several days after the fatal crash.
Muhammad is charged with one count each of first-degree fleeing an officer, operating a vehicle without a license causing death, vehicle theft, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition, court records show.
He was due to report to federal custody on cocaine trafficking charges at the time of the crash, federal court records show.
The case has been assigned to Washtenaw County Trial Judge Patrick Conlin Jr. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5.
Muhammad remains lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
