Sacred Heart Greenwich announced that Nadia Borja ‘23 was named a 2023 Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC). Of the more than 1.5 million eligible high school juniors who entered the program only 16,000, or one percent, have been nationally recognized as Semifinalists.

The NMSC, a not-for-profit organization established in 1955 honors the nation’s scholastic champions who exemplify academic excellence. High school juniors enter the program through participation in the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test which was offered in October.  Today’s list of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of the highest-scoring seniors in each state who will advance onto the Finalist and Winner rounds which will be announced in March 2023.

“Sacred Heart Greenwich is proud to share that Nadia has been nationally recognized as a 2023 Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Program,” said Michael F. Baber, President and Head of School. “This is a prestigious honor and one that showcases all the hard work and dedication that Nadia has shown to her pursuit of excellence in her academics.”

NMSC Semifinalists who meet academic requirements will advance to the next step of the process of which 15,000 students are expected to be recognized as Finalists and 7,250 will be officially recognized as Merit Scholarship winners.
