Lowell golfer wins Grand Rapids Fall Athlete of the Week honors

Elle Sluss’ record-breaking week didn’t go unnoticed by MLive.com readers.

Sluss, a Lowell sophomore, has earned Grand Rapids Fall Athlete of the Week 4 honors in an online poll that closed Monday morning. Sluss amassed 42.28 percent of the votes cast to edge out Jenison’s Sophia Umstead (28.16 percent) for top honors.

Sluss, who was a state qualifier as a freshman, set a pair of records. She shot an even par 36 at Kent Country Club in Grand Rapids, which established Lowell’s school record for nine holes. Sluss then finished runner-up individually at the Lakewood Invitational at Morrison Lake Golf Course, helping the Red Arrows record a team record for 18 holes with a 354.
