Stowe, Vermont, is just one of those places many people likely have on their bucket lists.
Sitting in Lamoille County, Stowe draws in crowds from all over the world, especially this time of the year.
Stowe’s stunning fall foliage gives leaf peepers a slice of Mother Nature’s magic and local business a major boost.
"We enjoy it, and we just love being here, and we love being a part of this place and making people happy when they come here," said Denise Earley, owner of Stowe Mercantile, a local store that's been open for three decades. Earley says it's a family business to its core.
"They say when they come in, it feels like they stop back in time," Earley said.
The store is filled with vintage decorations and goodies for everyone, including a
candy counter, homemade fudge, trinkets and even a gondola originally from Stowe Mountain.
Of course, we had to stop at the Von Trapp Brewery & Beirhall and chat with Sam Von Trapp, executive vice president of Trapp Family Lodge and Von Trapp Brewing.
"Our family arrived in Stowe in 1942, and it reminded them of Austria. They decided to put down roots here, bought this farm on top of the hill. Amazingly, other people didn’t want it," Von Trapp said.
Eighty years later, their property spans about 2,600 acres — from the hotel, villas, restaurants, brewery and everything in between.
It's what they call “A little of Austria and a lot of Vermont."
Sam Von Trapp couldn’t be more proud to carry on a family legacy with deep roots here.
"And to see how our family's story in the musical “The Sound of Music” has made so many people happy, inspired so many people, that’s definitely the best thing about being a Von Trapp."
With stunning hillsides, local businesses and delightful tourists, Stowe is one of those postcard destinations that keeps getting better with time.
