Shameless plug alert (Well everyone else does it so why shouldn't we?)

We've launched a new online service on the back of the Shropshire Live news website. With the departure of the former local services from our county we thought there was a gap to fill, but we're starting small and by no means claiming to be the saviours of local radio. Hopefully it will grow and there will be an opportunity for us to go DAB in the future.

Glad you're bringing something local but why would you associate yourself with Anyplace Live?
With its low-quality "journalism", clickbait listicles and general encouragement of division and hatred amongst people, they're a real plague on my social media timeline.

Nice one! I'm not from the area but looking at DAB and FM there is now a distinct lack of local radio in North Salop thanks to GHR, with Sunshine only broadcasting to the south. Hope it all goes well!

Hello Vinnie. Have you had a look at the website? If you have you'll already have noticed that Shropshire Live isn't a Reach plc website. It's been around for a lot longer than those websites have, 13 years and counting, and is run by two local guys who are my colleagues in the radio venture. I understand why you'd think it was 'one of those sites', but the truth is that we were there first, and there isn't an equivalent Reach website in our county because all the local papers are owned by MNA.

They don't appear to have any connection with the Reach newspaper group's websites - maybe they used the "live" name before Reach did?

The two owners appear to have some radio experience in the area

    Oh dear.

Indeed, although I'm sure it has it's haters, the Shropshire Star has a feel of last man standing in the "vaguely useful and news-based" local newspaper stakes.

Unfortunate name these days, but it's clear from the website it's very much not Reach-based.

I hadn't and I'm very pleased you cleared up my presumption. Sorry for making it and I really should have known better.
I also apologise for making that connection with Reach.

I also feel for the guys who are having to deal with the effects of this negative impression from people based purely on their name. What a pickle it is for them.

    Good luck to you all.

Yep - because a) it has news content and b) the popups, pounders, auto-playing videos and other shite don't make even the act of scrolling the page on a mobile device without an ad-blocker a chore.

Shropshire Star and Live - entirely separate, and both good.

Both the Shropshire Star and its sister the Express and Star were powerhouses in local news publishing, with the excellent Sporting Star as well. Both titles, like all regional newspapers, are shadows of their former selves

Good luck to Shropshire Live - to think there was once Beacon / WABC and The Severn / Telford FM alongside Radio Shropshire. Only the latter survives

No worries. To be fair, the "xx Live" name doesn't have any negative connotations here as the nearest Reach website is Birmingham and it's stories don't cut through around here, at least not on the timelines of anyone I know. It certainly doesn't seem to have affected the website anyway.

I find that all random places pop up on mine and I have no links to any of those places. They were having a field day over the Phil and Holly queuegate.
