Rochester, N.Y. — The list of highest-paying jobs in the Rochester metro area is dominated by positions in the health care field.
Eighteen of the top 25 jobs in the region are found in the field, including nine of the top 10, according to data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The situation is similar in other Upstate New York cities, including Buffalo and Syracuse. Hospitals and other health care providers are major employers in those regions.
All of the top-paying jobs in the Rochester area have annual median salaries of at least $208,000.

The Rochester metro area includes Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne and Yates counties.
Most of the highest-paying jobs in the Rochester area employ relatively few people. The only job in the top 25 with total employment over 1,000 is financial management at 1,500.
Other than health care jobs, top-paying positions in the area are largely in management, including marketing managers, compensation and benefits managers and chief executives. An exception, physicists, ranks No. 25.
As for Rochester’s lowest-paying jobs, they all have annual median salaries of less than $29,000. You can see the 25 jobs with the lowest pay in the region below.
Many of the positions are in service-related fields like pest control, food service and personal care. Some of the positions on the list employ thousands, including fast food and counter workers at over 13,000 and cashiers at over 11,000.
Three jobs tie for lowest-paying in Rochester at a median of $26,000 a year. They include people who apply pesticides to plants, certain sales workers and drivers.
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics releases pay estimates for jobs in U.S. metro areas every March. The latest numbers reflect wages as of May 2021.
