WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - A section of Platt Road near County Farm Park in Ann Arbor is closing for more than a month for utility installation for a new development.
The area is the site of the Veridian development, a planned sustainability-focused neighborhood with an affordable component that has been years in the making at the property that once housed a county juvenile detention center.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, Platt Road between Washtenaw Avenue and Canterbury Road, as well as Canterbury Road between Hampshire and Platt roads, will close to all traffic.
The closures are slated to last until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. During that time, contractors will install utility mains for the development across all lanes of Platt Road, working between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, officials said.
The full street closures will remain in place during the duration of the construction.
A detour will route southbound Platt Road traffic east on Washtenaw Avenue then south on South Huron Parkway back to Platt Road, with northbound traffic following the same route in reverse. Westbound Canterbury Road traffic is being detoured southwest on Hampshire Road, south on Chesterfield Drive, and east on Packard Road back to Platt Road.
The development along Platt Road, a partnership between Ann Arbor-based Thrive Collaborative and local nonprofit developer Avalon Housing, includes 50 affordable apartments in nine two-story buildings, with some reserved as supportive housing for those exiting homelessness or housing instability.
The market-rate portion of the project, under construction now, is slated to bring 99 housing units of various types and sizes on the southern portion of the site — targeted to be one of the nation’s first mixed-income, net-zero energy usage communities with no gas lines or combustion appliances.
