GIRARD — A West Springfield man was killed and a teenage boy was injured when a pickup truck they were in crashed in a construction zone in western Erie County early Saturday morning.

The driver of the 1993 Chevrolet Silverado, identified by the Pennsylvania State Police as 42-year-old Kenneth L. Peters Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened on Saturday at about 3:10 a.m. on Route 5 just east of Route 215 in Springfield Township.

A 17-year-old boy who was a passenger in the truck was taken by ambulance to UPMC Hamot with unknown injuries, troopers reported. Information on the boy's condition was not available Monday.
