WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - A major route between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti is again available to drivers after a three-month resurfacing project left it off-limits for most of the summer.
The short section of Packard Road between U.S. 23 and Carpenter Road in Pittsfield Township, just outside Ann Arbor’s eastern city limits, reopened Friday, Sept. 30.
During the summer, crews completely removed the pavement there. Then, Pittsfield Township began work on replacing a water main at the site with a history of problems, pausing the road construction and extending the project, officials said in online updates.
The project also involved placing new curbs and pouring concrete for new sidewalks in addition to repaving the roadway.
The closure was initially slated to last eight weeks, but ended up taking longer, leaving the road closed for three months and three days.
