Candidates for the office of Mayor of Cutler Bay
Tim Meerbott

1. Why are you running again for the mayor’s seat in Cutler Bay?
“I was raised in Cutler Bay. I have been here since 1965 and love my town and the residents. Cutler Bay is one of the best communities in Florida. The people care about each other and it has a hometown feel unlike any other in Dade County.

I want to make sure we preserve that hometown feeling. I want to make sure that we preserve a family friendly community. I was raised here, and I would hope that my children and grandchildren can experience the same great town that I did. It is important to me.”

2. What do you consider the most urgent issue for town residents? How will you tackle it?
“Out of control growth continues to be an issue for all south Florida. Along with the growth comes traffic congestion, overcrowding and a decrease in quality of life. I have taken action to limit our growth in the core of the community including action to prevent over 500 additional units in the heart of our town. I have sponsored legislation which takes control of traffic studies away from developers and put it back in the hands of the people. I have supported actions which has stopped building on environmentally sensitive land and protect our environment.”

3. Why do you consider yourself to be the best person for the job?
“I am by far the best experienced candidate. I was one of the original council members of this town. I have been on the charter committee and of course, I have been the mayor for the last four years. Over the last four years we have made great improvements in our town. We were ranked by the state senate sponsored Taxpayer accountability project as the number one as the most efficient government in Florida for spending. We were also ranked No. 1 in government size. You can’t get any better than No. 1. We also have been very successful in bringing federal, state and county money back into our town. We have brought back millions of dollars into our town to improve our city.

“My opponent has no government experience and as far as I know has never even been to a meeting. Trusting the future of our town to someone with no experience is a dangerous proposition.

“I have been an advocate for protection our environment and have been appointed by the state and the county on committees to protect and save Biscayne Bay. Experience is a very valuable asset. It’s not only knowing how to make things better, but it is working collaboratively with our state and county partners to do so.”

4. What closing statement do you want to make to our readers?
“As a lifelong resident of this town, I would like the people to know that I care deeply for this town and the people in it. I love the hometown feel of Cutler Bay and will work hard to preserve that. I have worked hard to limit the growth in the core of the town along with the problems it brings. I am the only experienced candidate who knows how to navigate the complex political spectrum to leverage the money available from the federal, state and county government.

Since I have been mayor, Cutler Bay has been recognized as one of the most efficient governments in the state of Florida. We were ranked by a real estate website as one of the hottest cities in America. We have seen improvements in our parks, our schools, and our quality of life. We are preparing to build a legacy park, including a municipal center for our residents.

“I am proud of the progress we have made in Cutler Bay. I want to continue to improve the quality of life of our residents and preserve the community feel. I ask that you support me in my bid to re-elect Tim Meerbott for mayor of the Town of Cutler Bay.”
