Teaneck voted North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 5

After four days of voting, Teaneck has been selected as the North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 5.

The Highwaymen (3-1) defeated Hopatcong, 20-0, to register their first shutout since 2017 and first three-game winning streak since 2016. Senior two-way standout Justin Meyer ran for two TD and junior Vance Mixon ran for a score. Senior Alexander Caba also has been a two-way standout and junior Zach Strickland was a force on the defensive line.

Here were the other nominees:

Cliffside Park/Ridgefield

The Red Raiders (4-0) remain in the chase for the SFC Ivy White Division title with a 27-11 win over Kearny. Senior Jeremiah Turner had 113 yards rushing, 45 yards receiving, scored two TD and made 11 tackles. Junior Josh Chang ran for 136 yards. Junior Drake Lewis threw for 63 yards, including a 27-yard score to Turner, and added six tackles and an interception.

Eastside

The Ghosts (3-2) posted a 12-10 upset to knock previously unbeaten Ridgewood from the No. 1 spot in the North Jersey Public Top 20. Sophomore Rafiq Walker scored on a 7-yard run in the second quarter for a 6-3 lead. Senior Carnell Goodwin scored on a 9-yard run in the third for a 12-3 lead. They survived after Ridgewood’s missed field goal on the final play.

Northern Highlands

In a rematch of last year’s North 1, Group 4 final, the Highlanders (3-2) beat previously unbeaten Ramapo, 29-26. Sophomore Nate Johnson tossed three TD passes, including scores of 39 and 41 yards to senior Zach Madison. Senior Charlie Sparago’s 2-yard TD run put them ahead for good, 13-6, and junior Daniel Moor’s 36-yard field goal in the fourth made it 29-20.

Pascack Valley

The Panthers (1-4) secured their first victory in dramatic fashion - in overtime. Senior Quinn Flanagan scored on a 2-yard run in OT to provide the 42-35 victory over high-scoring Demarest. Senior Jake Crawbuck threw for 170 yards, including TD passes of 8, 32 and 14 yards to senior Connor Higgins. Sophomore Kevin Regula ran for 169 yards and two scores.

Westwood

The Cardinals (5-0) earned a spot in the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey Top 25 with a 38-14 victory over previously unbeaten Ramsey. Seniors Jack Dugan and Colby Laughton ran for two TD apiece to help build a 38-6 lead entering the fourth. Junior Robbie Carcich opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 43-yard TD pass to junior Dave Gaboardi.
