About 7,000 runners took to Portland streets Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, for the 50th Portland Marathon presented by OHSU Health.
Both the marathon and half-marathon kicked off at 7 a.m., beginning and ending at Portland’s Waterfront Park by Southwest Naito Parkway and Salmon Street. The overall course stretched across the city hugging the Willamette River from Northwest Thurman Street and 24th Avenue to the Johnson Creek area in Southeast Portland. Runners crossed the Broadway, Burnside, Morrison and Sellwood bridges.
In the men’s marathon, Matt Spear, 33, came in first, with a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes. Lydia Tay, 34, of Canada, won the women’s marathon with a time of 2 hours, 53 minutes.
In the half marathon, Chris Maxwell, 29, took first place with a chip time of 1 hour, 9 minutes. Tara Welling, 33, took first place in the women’s race with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes.
Max Woodbury, 50, won the wheelchair race with a time of 2 hours,33 minutes.
