Gear, Woodward Lead Cougars to Shutout Victory

Cougars wrap up non-conference play; face SMU Thursday
HOUSTON – Midfielder Madison Gear propelled the University of Houston Soccer program to its final non-conference win of the season with a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon against UTSA at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The Cougars (5-4-2) and Roadrunners (6-3-3) entered the match looking to pick up a win to wrap up non-conference action. Both teams battled the entire match testing each keeper with UTSA picking up 15 shots and Houston earning 10 shots.
Houston's game-winning goal was scored off a header in the 81st minute by senior Gear. She was assisted by freshman Alex Whitcraft, who recorded her second assist of the weekend.
Goalkeeper Haley Woodward recorded her first career shutout and first on the season highlighted by a career high nine saves.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will continue action at the Carl Lewis International Complex with American Athletic Conference play at 7 p.m. Thursday against SMU as part of Greek Night.
The Greek organization with the highest attendance will receive a $200 gift card from Little Woodrow's at the conclusion of the game.
Fans in attendance will receive rally towels while supplies last.
