A sigh of relief for a beleaguered Yankees bullpen: Ron Marinaccio left Sunday’s game due to right shin soreness, which he has been dealing with off and on all season, and it’s not believed to be serious.

“The shin has been a lingering issue, and today it was just a little more fired up. Don’t know if I just didn’t bounce back as well from the last outing, but a little hotter today,” Marinaccio said. “Just like a soreness on the bone.”

Marinaccio will have tests tomorrow in New York to try to determine if there is anything severe there, and expects to join the team in Texas if everything checks out.

“It was just bothering him a little bit more today when he was pitching, so we wanted to get him out of there and not mess with it too much,” manager Aaron Boone said after the game. “We’ll do all those tests and make sure, but just a little more sore when he was pitching today.”

Tests Marinaccio had earlier in the year all came back “fine,” and the righty is hopeful this time will be similar, and he’ll only need a day or two.

“Just limit the reps; it’s that time of year where there’s wear and tear, but if everything comes back clean, I’ll join the guys down there,” the righty said.

With just four games left over the next three days, Boone was asked if it would be in the cards to just shut Marinaccio down for the final series – something he noted was a possibility but not necessarily likely.

“We have to see what we have and where we are with it tomorrow,” Boone said. “If we feel like we need to do that, then we will, but that will be a trainer’s decision.”

The Yankees’ final four games mean nothing in terms of standings for them or the Rangers, but the team is without Zach Britton after he went back on the IL this weekend, and both Wandy Peralta and Clay Holmes are down for the rest of the regular season with injuries as well.
