As the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the home stretch of the 2022 regular season, Blake Treinen is scheduled to take another step in his recovery from right shoulder tightness by throwing a bullpen session on Monday.

After being shut down for multiple days because of lingering trouble with the shoulder, Treinen resumed playing catch last week at Petco Park and continued with a throwing program through Sunday.

“Blake’s catch play went well. Got up to 120 (feet),” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said over the weekend. Treinen followed that by doing some light throwing off a mound Sunday for the first time since being put on the 15-day list September 10.

This is a second right shoulder injury Treinen has dealt with this season as he previously missed five months because of a partial tear in his capsule. Treinen has said the two shoulder injuries are unrelated.

He made just two appearances before going back on the 15-day IL, and overall has pitched in just five games. Those have been successful, however, as Treinen has a 1.80 ERA and 0.40 WHIP in five innings. He didn’t allow a hit in two games after coming off the 60-day IL last month.

As he was in the midst of restarting a throwing program, Treinen said he was exhausting every avenue as part of the rehab process in hopes of returning for the National League Division Series.

Will Blake Treinen be on Dodgers postseason roster?

Although not yet publicly ruled out, the likelihood of Treinen returning during the regular season is essentially nonexistent.

Roberts previously said that wouldn’t be necessary for Treinen to make the Dodgers postseason roster, but those odds also don’t appear favorable.

“He is still in the hopeful category,” Roberts said of Treinen joining the Dodgers for the NLDS. “You know, I’m hopeful. I think each passing day is beneficial to Blake. I’m still hopeful for the DS, but I think we’ll kind of go from there. And hopefully, he’ll be there to see it through.”
