Montgomery police say they've opened a homicide investigation after a man was shot dead and another was seriously injured in an overnight shooting.

Police were called to the 1700 block of Pine Street at about 2:12 a.m. Sunday after getting a report of shooting. They found Reginald Woods, 23, of Montgomery with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Woods was later pronounced dead, MPD said.

A second adult man also sustained what police describe as a life-threatening gunshot wound, but police have not yet named the second shooting victim.

Police say their initial investigation found that the shooting happened near the intersection of Taft and Malvern streets. No other information was immediately released by MPD.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crimestoppers at 334-215-STOP, the secret witness line at 334-625-4000, or MPD at 334-625-2831.
