An Andrews man has been arrested and charged with eight offenses after trying to flee from deputies on a four-wheeler and hiding in a pond Friday.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said they spotted Derrick Charles Zeman, 31, and another man riding a four-wheeler on County Line Road at a high rate of speed carrying what looked like light fixtures in new packages.
According to a report, deputies stationed at Andrews Elementary School later spotted the suspects and chased them to the former Oneita Plant where they abandoned their vehicle.
A K-9 unit then responded to the scene and found Zeman hiding in a pond near the property, deputies said.
Zeman surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for treatment to prevent hypothermia and the four-wheeler was impounded.
He was charged with resisting arrest, interference with an official in the performance of duty, threatening an official in performance of duty, giving false name and address, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving under suspension as an habitual offender, failure to stop for blue light and siren and driving under suspension.
Zeman is being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The investigation is ongoing.
