Oklahoma City Police investigate shooting involving officer

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City police are investigating a shooting involving a police officer. The incident happened near NW 18th and Tulsa Ave.

Officers were responding to a 911 call of an armed man threatening suicide, said OKCPD MSgt. Gary Knight.

The shooting happened close to Buchanan Elementary School. It occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday morning and now police are investigating what happened.

Almost immediately, things took a turn for the worse.

“When they arrived, they became involved in a confrontation with the armed man which ultimately led to him being shot,” said Knight.

As police continue to collect evidence, the man has been transported to a local hospital where he went straight into surgery. Oklahoma City Police said the man has serious injuries.

No one else was injured and all officers are okay.

“Unfortunately, this ended with the suspect being shot by officers. The officers are all okay. There are three officers involved in this armed confrontation that resulted in the shooting. All three have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The suspect was wounded, transported to an area hospital. He went straight to surgery once he got there,” said Knight.

Neighbors told KFOR they heard multiple gun shots, possibly as many as 15 when it happened.

Other neighbors who said they’ve lived here for several years told KFOR something like this has never happened in the area before.

Police told KFOR this is an ongoing investigation and will release further details Monday morning.

This is a developing story.
