UFC Vegas 61 is being plagued with controversies following the involvement of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern, who was headlining the event against Xiaonan Yan, previously claimed that Zuckerberg rented out the Apex. UFC president Dana White, meanwhile, quickly shut it down and exclaimed that it was “total bullsh*t.”

To add flavor to it, Zuckerberg and his wife were spotted cageside at the event.

Why the Apex was closed off?

The fact that Zuckerberg watched the entire event, including the prelims, and that UFC Vegas 61 was closed off for the media and fans got many believing Dern was telling truth.

Many are now questioning the UFC’s decision to close off the event to the public when the promotion hasn’t done it for quite some time now. It certainly leads skeptics to thinking Zuckerberg being present when the UFC closed off an event was no coincidence, making Dern’s previous statement somewhat true.

Zuck had a great time

Whether or not Zuckerberg rented out the Apex is yet to be determined, but one thing certain was that the Facebook boss had an incredible time watching the live bouts, considering that he is a big MMA fan. Even during the preliminaries, he was present, proving he is not just a casual observer, but he is passionate about the sport. In the midst of the pandemic, Zuckerberg decided to keep up with MMA and started training for it as well. In spite of the fact that he looked to be having fun, his wife seemed appalled at the level of violence that she witnessed.

Zuck even thanked White for the invitation.

“Excited to see @mackenziedern fight tonight in Vegas. Thanks @danawhite for inviting us!,” Zuckerberg wrote.

Sooner rather than later, White might finally lift the lid on these issues regarding UFC Vegas 61. Let’s wait and see.
