It's October 1 and that means...it's that time of year when Billie Joe Armstrong is the subject of jokes because of his almost classic song, "Wake Me Up When September Ends." People forget that the song was written based on a past hard time in the singer's life.
But then, Armstrong is no longer that affected. In fact, he now stayed ahead of the jokers by posting a joke against himself.
The lead singer of Green Day posted a picture of himself on a huge rubber ducky holding a drink in his hand on the GD Instagram account in an attempt to beat all the memes and posts that would unavoidably be shared.
His caption is pretty simple ... "GOOD MORNING. YOU'RE WELCOME."

Everything is amusing now, at least on the surface. However, it is a trending song that has a somewhat sinister beginning and it relates to Billie's father, who passed away on September of 1982 when Armstrong was still a little boy. He probably wrote the song to cope.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong actually spoke on The Howard Stern Show about the band's fantastic hit and how he was paying tribute to his late father through it. When Billie Joe was only 10 years old, his father Andrew Armstrong passed unexpectedly. According to legend, Billie told his mother after his father's death, "Wake me up when September ends."
Asked if he had written those words down or the phrase kind of stayed with him through all those years that passed, he replied, "I think it's something that just stayed with me" because the death of his father had made a great impact and it felt as if his life was back to zero after that.
Howard then queries the frontman of Green Day on whether he actively considers his late father when singing the song.
Billie Joe responded in the affirmative. He revealed that he kind of avoided writing about him for many years, and then eventually having a breakthrough like that felt amazing. He shared that it wasn't like a terrible emotion so much, but it was just kind of like honoring his dad.
