Even more patience is being asked of boxing fans as both Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. continue to hammer out a deal behind closed doors. But while the two are reportedly close to finalizing their mouthwatering welterweight undisputed showdown, the boxing world, by and large, is unsure who will emerge victoriously.

Kenny Porter, on the other hand, isn’t on the fence when asked who he believes will win their proposed bout.

“Errol, absolutely,” said Porter during an interview with Thaboxingvoice. “Technically, extremely sound fighter.”

Porter, much to his chagrin, knows Crawford and Spence extremely well. In November of 2019, his son, Shawn Porter, squared off against the powerful southpaw in a 147-pound unification bout. Though he pushed Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) like few others, the Dallas native, thanks to his timely knock down in the penultimate round, had his hand raised in triumph.

Two years later, Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) officially ushered Shawn Porter into retirement via 10th-round stoppage. With both Crawford and Spence holding firm to all four titles in the welterweight division, Kenny Porter, like the rest of the world, remains hopeful that the two will tango sooner rather than later.

As first reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN, an official announcement appears imminent as both sides have agreed to the financial split of their supposed showdown.

Viewed as a 50/50 bout, Kenny Porter refuses to acknowledge the closeness of their possible matchup. Having watched Crawford systematically break his son down until he was eventually forced to wave the white flag, Kenny isn’t convinced that Crawford will successfully be able to impose his will against Spence. Taking into account the physical dimensions of the current unified welterweight star, Kenny simply has a hard time concocting a solution that Crawford can implement come fight night.

“There’s a lot of different things that go on there but the bigger fighter in the fight, on fight night, that’s a huge advantage for him on fight night. On fight night, he’s x amount of weight classes above his weight class. That’s a huge advantage.”
