ANN ARBOR, MI -- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and nothing elevates it quite like an array of hash browns, eggs and sausage.

The quest for fluffy, perfect pancakes starts and ends at Nick’s Original House of Pancakes, 3030 Lohr Circle in Ann Arbor. Although the breakfast joint also serves skillets, omelets and breakfast bowls, the real star is the expanse of pancake dishes.

Options include the Fruit Explosion, topped with bananas, strawberries and blueberries; Cinnamon Swirl, featuring brown sugar, cinnamon and sweet cream frosting; and Michigan Cherry and Walnut Pancakes, with Michigan cherries.

Among Ann Arbor’s most famous breakfast spots, Fleetwood Diner is well-loved for its Hippie Hash. The dish features hash browns topped with grilled green peppers, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, mushrooms and feta cheese.

Breakfast dishes include the Special Breakfast, which features three eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, breakfast potatoes and toast and the portobello benedict, which includes two grilled portobello mushrooms, toast, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.

The belly-busting Bomber Breakfast is the star of the show at Bomber Restaurant, 306 E. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti. The dish features four eggs, at least three pounds of potatoes, toast and either six sausage patties, seven sausage links, two slices of ham or 10 slices of bacon.
