Haltom City renters can upgrade to another apartment for $118 a month, on average.

Maybe you got a slight bump in your paycheck. Or if you didn’t, maybe you can cut down on pizzas.

It might not be much, but if you’re a renter here’s an idea of where to spend any extra cash: How about a whole bedroom?

RentCafé crunched the numbers and came up with a study that determined the top U.S. cities where renters can upsize their apartment situation for less than $100 per month. To foodies, that’s the equivalent of fewer than nine pizzas.

To compile the report, RentCafé used Yardi Matrix data to rank cities based on the least amount needed to upgrade to an apartment with one extra bedroom, paying less than $100 per month.

People renting in 83 cities — mostly suburbs — could have an additional bedroom for less than $100 each month. The average American renter could make the switch to another apartment with an additional bedroom for almost $200 per month.

The top place to upsize is Portsmouth, Va., where a renter can upsize by paying only $25 per month. The best in Texas is 18th-ranked McAllen, where an additional bedroom can run $52.
