EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — It was a big project, but roughly four-thousand pumpkins are ready for a fundraiser benefiting the JDP Theater Company. JDP is based out of the Church of the Epiphany on Pawtucket Avenue.
The pumpkins were driven up from New Mexico a little early to avoid possibly traveling through the remnants of Hurricane Ian. Saturday, many members of the community helped get them ready for the event.
“We have the East Providence high school football team behind us right now unloading the truck,” said Jillian Gesualdo, Executive Director of JDP Theater Company.
About 30 members from the team formed a line from the truck to the pumpkin patch passing pumpkins down the line in the pouring rain.
“They help us out. This is the second year in a row that they’ve helped us and we’re really fortunate to have them because it’s a big job.” Said Gesualdo.
Local scouts also helped unload the pumpkins from the truck earlier in the morning as well as some of the JDP actors.
Proceeds from the pumpkin patch go towards paying for the theater’s programing.
The pumpkin patch is open from 2 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on weekdays and 9:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. on weekends.
