Saturday afternoon, Meggie Hounyovi, an African Immigrant, opened a new boutique at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids.

Megglam Boutique's opening marked the increase in number of successful Black owned businesses in the city, joining:

• Shawnniecakes in Newbo.
• Vivian's on the Southwest side.
• Top Notch Boutique at Lindale Mall.

It is the culmination of a dream that began in 2020 for Hounyovi.

When Covid hit and we were in quarantine, I had time and decided to work on African fashion designs and Wax and Accessories.", said Hounyovi in Saturday's Media Statement. "It had always been a love of mine: I picked a name, registered, built my website and then my business.

Iowa's News Now spoke with Hounyovi to talk more about her boutique's opening.

I am so happy.", said Hounyovi. "I thought that I would be stressed, but I'm really relaxed. Because, everybody around me is hanging out, everybody's just happy to be here with me. And they're pouring, they walk in and I'm so happy. I can not express my happiness right now.

Megglam Boutique will be open Tuesday through Sunday.

The boutique will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Sunday.

The boutique will sell Ankara clothing for men, women, and kids of all ages.
