Hurricane debris in Polk County

About 40 hurricane debris removal haulers are now rolling into Polk County. All drivers must be certified for FEMA before they can pick up your hurricane debris. Hurricane debris is not collected by local haulers. If you mix your hurricane debris with your regular garbage, your household garbage or yard waste will not be picked up!

Debris hauling is set to begin on Monday, October 3, giving all residents time to get their debris to the curb before trucks are in your neighborhood. Do not place debris in roadways or close to permanent objects like trees, mailboxes and power lines. Large claw trucks, like the one pictured, cannot move through narrow roads or navigate around other objects.

The county’s primary focus will be in the most heavily-damaged area of the county…south of Highway 60. You can follow the progress of debris collection in Polk on our daily maps on social media and at www.polk-county.net beginning Monday, October 3.
