CNY man who police say crashed truck into jail and cars, caused mom to crash car arrested again

West Monroe, N.Y. — A Brewerton man who has been arrested three times times this month has now been charged with arson in Oswego County, according to State Police.

Kevin J. Somers, 32, was arrested Thursday after breaking into an abandoned gas station in West Monroe and setting a fire that got out of control, according to a state police news release Saturday.

Somers has had numerous run-ins with police over the last month.

He was charged with ramming his vehicle into the Onondaga County Justice Center on two separate occasions on Sept. 8, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

Somers also was charged with driving his 2015 GMC Sierra into two cars parked in the lot outside Top This Pizza in Brewerton on Sept. 8, according to Cicero Police Chief Steve Rotunno. Somers was a former employee at the pizza shop, Rotunno said.

Somers is also facing charges for grabbing the wheel of his mother’s car on Sept. 24 and causing the car to crash into trees along Interstate 81 in Cicero, according to the state police

Somers was arraigned and released from jail each time he was arrested.

On Thursday, Somers snuck into an abandoned gas station at 2949 State Rt. 49, in West Monroe sometime between 7 and 9 p.m., troopers said.

He intentionally started a fire inside the building in an attempt to stay warm, troopers said. The fire grew out of control and the building was completely destroyed, they said.

Somers was charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree arson, troopers said.

Somers was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Oswego County Public Safety Building for centralized arraignment, troopers said.
