Hurricane Ian made landfall near Charleston, South Carolina on Friday before moving toward Virginia.
Ian slammed into Virginia with tropical storm force wind gusts. Strong wind and heavy rain contributed to power outages.
Wind gusts of 40 to 50mph battered the ABC13 area, from Friday night and into Saturday morning.
ABC13 measured a peak wind gust of 46mph at WSET at 1:37 a.m. Wind gusts over 35mph were observed for 14 hours!
Numerous tree limbs are down, plus occasional larger trees.
Power outages peaked at 102,000 customers in Virginia losing electricity.
Danville and Pittsylvania counties have the highest concentration of power outages. Less than 2,000 folks in Lynchburg lost electricity.
By comparison, Hurricane Michael in 2018 caused 500,00 outages across the state.
The strongest wind has ended for Virginia, but rain will linger this weekend.
Occasional light to moderate rain and drizzle will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
