The best and biggest concerts coming to metro Phoenix in October 2022

Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters brings his This Is Not a Drill Tour to Glendale in a month that also features concerts by the Doobie Brothers and the Who in their first Valley concert since 2013.

But it's not all classic rock this month in metro Phoenix. 

Goldrush: Neon Dreams brings three days of EDM to Phoenix Raceway, Colombian superstar Karol G plays Footprint Center and Pusha T brings his tour in support of a strong contender for the hip-hop album of the year to the Van Buren. 

Here's a look at those and other October concerts coming to metro Phoenix, including a co-headlining concert by two of Arizona's biggest band's, Jimmy Eat World and the Maine.

They rose to fame as Soundcloud rappers, going Top 10 on the album charts with their first full-length studio release. Four years later, they're playing Phoenix Raceway with Ski Mask the Slump God, $NOT, Code Orange, Maxo Kream and DJ Scheme in support of a third Top 10 release, "Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation."

Khruangbin

Known for their marriage of global sounds from reggae dub to surf-rock, Southeast Asian funk and Middle Eastern soul, Khruangbin have graced nearly every major festival stage in the world, including FORM Arcosanti. They're joined by Vieux Farka Toure.

Los Angeles Azules

These cumbia legends from Mexico City are coming off their most successful U.S. tour, which featured more than 25 sold-out dates. With a completely revamped production, De Iztapalapa Para el Mundo will include special guests to perform the group’s most iconic songs as well as their recent hits “Cumbia a la gente” and “Otra noche.”

Knotfest Roadshow

Slipknot's Knotfest Roadshow returns to Ak-Chin Pavilion, where last year's show was stopped to put out fires on the lawn. Horror-metal maestros Ice Nine Kills and metalcore titans Crown the Empire round out the bill. Last year's Roadshow sold out amphitheaters across the country.

Steve Vai

The guitar hero launched his career at 18 as Frank Zappa's official transcriptionist, going on to join the band as Zappa's "stunt" guitarist and appear on albums by David Lee Roth and Public Image Ltd. He arrives in support of "Inviolate," a 10th album whose musical essence he summed up in a press release with “It’s very ‘Vai,’ whatever that means.”

Roger Waters

In a press release, the Pink Floyd veteran promised "a ground breaking new rock and roll/cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round" as "a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to LOVE, PROTECT and SHARE our precious and precarious planet home."

The Doobie Brothers

Michael McDonald has rejoined the Doobie Brothers, whose 50th Anniversary Tour also features Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee. This is the first time these four members of the legendary group have toured together in more than 25 years. A USA Today review said this tour showcases the group "in peak form," singling out the vocals.

Arlo Parks

This 22-year-old from London is as much a poet as a songwriter, setting the tone for her astonishing debut, "Collapsed in Sunbeams," with a bittersweet monologue about "trusting our bodies." That album earned a Grammy nomination and made the rounds of Best of 2021 lists, from Paste to azcentral.com.

Clutch

"Sunrise on Slaughter Beach" is a 13th album that effortlessly plays to every strength these stoner-rock legends have shown along the way, from the piledriving riff of an opening track that finds Neil Fallon snarling, "The greatest living science-fiction writer in the world? You're lookin' at him."

Zach Williams

This Christian rock veteran launched his career in 2007 as the leader of Zach Williams & the Reformation, going on to front Brothers of Grace, renamed Zach Williams and the Brothers of Grace, before launching his solo career in 2016. His fall tour features special guest Ben Fuller.

Shinedown 

The multiplatinum rockers have topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock charts 18 times since the WWE theme "Save Me" did the trick in 2005. Their hits include "Second Chance," "Sound of Madness," "Cut the Cord," "Monsters" and two songs from their latest album, "Planet Zero." They're joined by Jelly Roll and John Harvie.

Bring Me the Horizon

These British metalcore veterans are touring the States with Knocked Loose, grandson  and Siiickbrain. Since forming in 2004, they've won seven Kerrang! Awards, including Best Live Act. They're best known on this side of the Atlantic for a string of rock radio hits, including "Drown," "Throne," "Medicine" and "Parasite Eve."

Goldrush: Neon Dreams

This signature Relentless Beats event has been retooled with the move to Phoenix Raceway. Los Huracanes del Norte

The award-winning norteño legends, who were honored last month with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, are on a tour celebrating their 50th anniversary. Founded by four Garcia brothers in Tangancícuaro, Mexico, they're now based in Portales, New Mexico.

Pusha T

The Virginia Beach rapper, who rose to fame as one half of the hip-hop duo Clipse with his brother No Malice, is touring the States on one of this year's most inspired hip-hop albums a full 20 years after grabbing the spotlight with "Grindin'." There's a reason NME declared "It's Almost Dry" "an instant hip-hop classic." He's with IDK.

These Swedish extreme-metal legends were named the most important band in metal by Alternative Press. They're touring in support of yet another brutal masterstroke of down-tuned riffage topped by tortured howls, "Immutable" — "further cementing their legend," as Kerrang! says.

The War on Drugs

These beloved indie-rock veterans were an undisputed highlight of this year's Innings Festival. Adam Granduciel wasn’t kidding when he told us they’d been “firing on all cylinders” since reassembling to work up live arrangements of the songs on last year’s brilliant “I Don’t Live Here Anymore” before their first tour back since the pandemic hit.

Her fans turned out in force at Coachella rocking a signature look. By all accounts, it was a sea of blue wigs. Now, the Colombian superstar is playing Phoenix on the Strip Love Tour with an opening set by Agudelo888, promising to treat those fans to all her greatest hits, several of which have topped the Billboard Latin charts, from "Tusa" to "Provenza."

Van Morrison

The increasingly cranky rock legend hasn't played the Valley since 2006. With any luck, he'll focus more on the material that earned him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame than the tinfoil-hat buffoonery that's plagued his recent output, which found him teaming up with Eric Clapton to yell at the clouds on an anti-lockdown screed.

The former star of "Girl Meets World," a Disney Channel comedy that ran three seasons, is touring the States in support of "Emails I Can't Send," an introspective journey through her deepest thoughts and feels that became the singer's third release to go Top 40 on the Billboard album charts.

Joyner Lucas

The Massachusetts rapper brings his ADHD Tour to town in continued support of a studio debut that hit the charts at No. 10 in 2020, joined by with West Coast rapper Symba. Lucas hit the mainstream in 2017 with the Grammy-nominated viral video to the hard-hitting song "I'm Not Racist."

Dehd

The Chicago indie-trio trio's latest album, "Blue Skies," offsets hazy dream-pop ballads with tracks that feel like they were meant to be enjoyed while driving fast. It earned a rave in Pitchfork, whose critic noted, "Road-trip rock albums are tallied and graded on their supply of fun, catchy lyrics to yell along to, and 'Blue Skies' boasts a profusion.”

The groove-metal veterans won Best Live Band twice at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. The album's lead single was hailed in Louder Sound as everything you could possibly want from Lamb of God.

Alec Benjamin

Jeremy Camp

Nash had been inducted twice to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as a founding member of the Hollies and with Crosby, Stills & Nash. When the concert is rescheduled, fans can expect a playlist of Nash’s most popular songs with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and the Hollies as well as highlights of his solo years, as he told The Arizona Republic in a recent interview.

Death Cab for Cutie

Ben Gibbard was in quite the existential headspace when wrote the songs on Death Cab’s latest album, “Asphalt Meadows,” from the bittersweet reflections of the haunted “Rand McNally” to “Here to Forever,” where watching movies from the ‘50s makes him think about how all those people on the screen are dead. It's some of his best work.

Zach Bryan

Lil Nas X

The Long Live Montero Tour takes its name from the country rapper's acclaimed full-length debut, the platinum "Montero." Pancho Barraza

This regional Mexican music star became involved in traditional norteño and banda music after moving to Mazatlán and working with Banda San Sebastian and Banda Camino. He established himself as a solo artist when his 1995 debut, "Mis Canciones de Amor," became a hit.

The Smithereens with Robin Wilson

This is a dream gig for Wilson, the Gin Blossoms singer whose pop sensibilities were shaped in part by having grown up on the Smithereens, whose acclaimed debut, "Especially for You," was one of Kurt Cobain's favorite albums. Wilson has been singing with the group since 2018, following the death of Pat DiNizio.

Panic! at the Disco

They're touring the States in support of an album called "Viva Las Vengeance" that feels like Brendan Urie if he wanted to be Queen or write a Broadway musical. "Why not both?" indeed! In the interest of full disclosure, a few songs are closer in spirit to classic power pop and glam. They're joined on the road by Marina and Jake Wesley Rogers.

Felix Cavaliere and Micky Dolenz

Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees are promising the hits that defined a generation. The Rascals' hits include the chart-topping "Good Lovin'," "Groovin'" and "People Got to Be Free." Originally assembled for a TV show that ran two seasons, the Monkees had a string of huge chart-topping songs and albums in the '60s.

It’s been eight years since the Fader ran a story headlined “Who is Alex G? Meet the Internet’s Secret Best Songwriter.” He’d still be considered a secret to your average casual music fan. What matters more is he’s still a great songwriter, as evidenced on this year’s masterful “God Save the Animals.”

Elevation Nights

Elevation Church's latest brings the worship experience to arenas with performances by Elevation Worship and Steven Furtick. Mercyful Fate

This is the Danish metal veterans' first headlining tour of North America in more than 20 years. Witches and Demons, you may come as you are! Satanic Regards."

A Day to Remember

These metalcore veterans are touring in support of "You’re Welcome," an album Riff Magazine praised for carrying on their tradition of "being predictably unpredictable" and whose "detours are more surprising and varied than any record in the band’s catalog." They're joined by the Used, Movements and Magnolia Park.

Jimmy Eat World and the Maine

Two of the Valley's most successful rock acts will join forces for the first time for one very special night in downtown Phoenix with special guests Thursday, PVRIS and another local hero, Sydney Sprague. The concert hits home the Friday between their appearance at the sold-out When We Were Young Festival weekends in Las Vegas.

AFI

The California punk veterans arrive in continued support of last year's "Bodies," an album that effortlessly blurs the lines between '80s New Wave revivalist synth-pop and spirited Warped Tour-compatible pop-punk urgency. DIY magazine wrote that "in fully embracing theatrics, their new wave leanings, and the unquestionable punk legacy, the band have landed on a sound both contemporary and unmistakably theirs."

Itzy

The K-pop superstars are touring the world in support of a mini-album titled "Checkmate," which features English and Korean versions of their single “Sneakers." Midland

The country trio led by Arizona's own Mark Wystrach are joined by Nikki Lane on a tour in support of "The Last Resort: Greetings From," their followup to the country-chart-topping "Let It Roll." Their hits include the double-platinum "Drinkin' Problem" and "Burn Out" from their debut album, "On the Rocks."

The Who

The Who Hits Back! Tour brings the legendary British rockers to the Valley for the first time since 2013 with special guests Mike Campbell and The Dirty Knobs. Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will be joined by longtime drummer Zak Starkey, Townshend's brother Simon on guitar, two keyboardists, a bassist and strings.

Grateful Dead guitarist Bobby Weir formed Wolf Bros in 2018 with Don Was on double bass and Jay Lane on drums. They're joined by Jeff Chimenti on keys and Barry Sless on pedal steel guitar on a tour that draws from the expansive catalog of the Dead, Weir's solo albums and assorted roots-rock covers.

These British rockers won Best Live Act at the Q Awards in 2013, the same year "Holy Fire" was nominated for the Mercury Prize, awarded to the year's best album. Nine years later, they're touring the States in support of a great new album, "Life is Yours," that grooves like Nile Rodgers producing a synth-pop classic in the '80s.

King Princess

King Princess is Mikaela Straus, who made the rounds of year-end critics' lists, from Time to Consequence of Sound and GQ, with 2019's soulfully seductive "Cheap Queen" while earning a spot on the 30 Under 30 list in Forbes. She's touring in support of "Hold On Baby," a sophomore album that finds her effortlessly living up to all that promise.
