Locals Cheryl and Kevin Tinklenberg have been preparing for ‘spooky season’ since 2021. While they had been decorating for Halloween for years, during Halloween of 2021 and the hight of COVID-19 they saw an opportunity to bring joy to the community in such an already dark time, by having a year round gallery for their skeleton decorations.

After reading an article about someones neighbors taking on this challenge during COVID-19, Cheryl thought, “I can do that,” and now the ‘Skellies,’ as she calls them, are still having great feedback, nearly a year later.

They are only doing this to put smiles on the faces in the community. For them, hearing about how much the Skellies are enjoyed is what makes all the hard work worth it.

“I love the comments. They make me so happy, that I just can’t pick one favorite. We have also had several letters and notes. We love hearing how they are enjoyed, we do it to bring smiles,” said Cheryl.

The Tinklenbergs’ never imagined that this would become a year round endeavor when it began. Originally, they were just going to decorate for Halloween, but the people of the community begged for more of the Skellies. According to Cheryl, this is the only time they had negative comments regarding the display in any way.

Sat., Oct. 1, the TInklenberg’s and their Skellies will be making an appearance at the Spooky Jeep Night at The Axehole at 9 pm. If you can drive by their address at 1624 N. Pecan, you can check out their Facebook page and give them a follow at Tinklenberg House Gallery. There will be a weekly installment for the month of Oct. on what the Tinklenberg Skellies are up to in the Ponca City News, so keep a look out.
