UPDATE 10/2/22: The City of Danville says it restored power overnight to about 1,000 people.

However, on Sunday morning there are still roughly 1,984 people in the dark. The city says 500 of those outages are in the areas of Golf Club Road and Hunting Hills.

All Power crews are on duty again Sunday and working another 16-hour shift. Danville crews will be aided by North Carolina and Ohio power workers. The city says they are working quickly and safely to restore service and they thank the community for their patience.

UPDATE — The City of Danville says power crews are still working hard to restore power in the city after 15 utility poles broke due to weather.

The city says Danville Utility crews are making good progress and of the 11 major lines that went down last night, eight are back in service. Power crews will be working 16 hour shifts today, helped by crews from Ohio and North Carolina.

Public works says the total of fallen trees is now 15.

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The City of Danville has given an Ian situation report. They say the National Weather Service is saying Ian has continued to weaken, with the heaviest rain and strongest wind moving north. However, clouds and light rain may persist.

The City of Danville is advising citizens in need of shelter to call the non-emergency number for the Emergency Communications Center at 434-799-5111, option 8. The center will arrange to meet the need.

Danville officials say Public Works crews responded overnight to reports of nine trees down throughout the city on the following roads:

  • Audobon Drive
  • Guerrant Street
  • Lanier Avenue
  • Lexington Avenue
  • Mountain Hill Road
  • North Main Street
  • Schoolfield Drive
  • Updike Place

As of 7 a.m, the tree on Guerrant Street is the only one yet to be removed. The tree on Guerrant Street is reported to have entangled with power lines.

Reports say Public Works is on standby and are available to respond as needed.

As of 7:30 this morning, the City reports that the Danville Utilities outage map shows 14,467 customers without power. They also say the Danville Utilities crew is responding, along with contract crews and mutual aid crews from Ohio.

The City wants to alert customers that during the power restoration effort, the crews may temporarily shut off power to an area to make repairs. Once they are repaired, power may be on at some houses and off at others due to additional damages to lines and equipment serving those homes.

City officials are warning residents and visitors to be wary of downed power lines and to call 911 immediately if they see any.
