GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — “It’s a math equation that’s been out of balance for a long, long time,” said Marielle Cowdin, Public Relations Director for The Colorado River Water Conservation District.
Recently at their annual water seminar, their General Manager Andy Mueller said reservoirs that feed off the Colorado River would be in severe crisis within 3-4 years.
Even the recent monsoons we’ve seen here on the western slope won’t help much. “It does help but the drought we’ve been seeing is more than just a drought,” said Cowdin,” it’s aridification.”
Aridification is the gradual change to a drier climate.
Folks on the western slope and all across America have been hearing about drought and climate change and global warming for decades now, but now it’s not something that’s just around the corner. “it’s upon us,” said Cowdin.
“It’s kind of like being a frog in a pot of boiling water that’s slowly heating up. We’re not able to see it because we’re living in it every day,” said Cowdin.
