Claiming their 10th consecutive win in the all-time series, the Pella Christian football team ran away from Pleasantville in a 54-7 win heard live on the KRLS2 stream and Pella Christian High School YouTube Channel.

The Eagles took control of the game early, scoring the first 41 points of the game unanswered. Peyton Ritzert got the scoring started with a 36-yard rushing touchdown off of a jet sweep on just the fourth offensive snap of the game. Benny Schirz would then score a pair of rushing touchdowns from six and 50 yards out with a 29-yard touchdown run from Isaac Kacmarynski sandwiched in between. Like Schirz, Cooper Spronk would also score a pair of rushing touchdowns from 16 and 30 yards out but with Isaac Kacmarynski 69-yard passing touchdown to Trevor Veenstra in between. Johnson Morgan capped off the scoring for the Pella Christain offense with a 27-yard touchdown. Eagles head coach Rich Kacmarynski said that the offensive line was a big reason his squad was able to get things going early in the ball game.

“One thing I guess I thought maybe was the difference was I thought her offensive line really set the tone early. We were able to rush the football pretty effectively I thought in the first quarter, and I think that probably was the difference. Obviously, our defense played well too, but our offensive line keyed us early because all our backs had success rushing the football, so I thought we were blocking well.”

Pleasantville’s lone score came early in the fourth quarter, when Owen Rule capitalized on the Eagles’ lone turnover of the night with a one-yard rushing touchdown. While the results weren’t what Trojans head coach Mack Jorth was hoping for, he was proud of his team’s efforts against a good Pella Christain squad.

“Our guys came out and fought, and I’m very proud of them for coming out and really fighting. We really made them earn their first three touchdowns, but to PC’s credit, they were able to just match that fight and continue to find ways to move the ball and get into the end zone. We just couldn’t quite get that stop when we needed to because Pella Christian is so good and then on the other side of the ball, we just couldn’t get any kind of continuity or rhythm going offensively. So, when you spend a lot of time on defense, things are going to happen.”

Pella Christian improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in district play, while Pleasantville fell to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in district play. The Eagles are back at home next week hosting Cardinal, while the Trojans will host a must win game against Van Buren.
