Letters: The 'thin blue line' should not go through Old Glory. Don't deface American flag

Soybeans ready for harvest on a Licking County farm. Soybeans are an ingredient in biodiesel fuel.

Soybeans belong in soup, not fuel tanks

Cornell Robertson lost me with his first sentence of the Sept. 28 column, "Who needs diesel when soybeansare available? Legumes better fuel."

The climate scam is no threat whatsoever to this country or the world. It is being utilized to herd the ignorant masses into servitude through control and taxation. The United States is already the cleanest country in the world.

Until such time as India, Pakistan and most of all, China, are forced to reduce their emissions, I don't care if we figure out how to use bananas for fuel. No efforts matter.

Make some soybean soup.

Thin blue line shouldn't go through Old Glory

The "Thin Blue Line" flag has been used to show support for police officers, but it has also been interpreted as a way to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement.

Re "Reps to protect ‘thin blue line' flags," Aug. 25: Two things should be noted in reference to House Bill 712.

First: In many parts of the country, including Ohio, various groups and individuals have unfortunately usurped the thin blue line flag’s intended message of police respect and instead are using this flag to represent white supremacy and are flying the thin blue flag as a substitute for the Confederate flag

Second and most important: As drafted by the American Legion and codified into law, Title 4 of the U.S. Flag Code specifically states: “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

To do so is a measure of disrespect to the flag.

If you want a flag to express an idea or culture, you can create your own unique flag.

It is not necessary to deface and disrespect the great American flag in doing so. The passage of House Bill 712 would be demonstrating a great disrespect for the American flag. It would also encourage more defacing of the American flag and more disrespect for the American flag.

Ohio deserves better than DeWine

So to summarize: Gov. Mike DeWine gratefully accepted Donald Trump's endorsement; served on the redistricting committee that ignored the will of the voters and submitted multiple gerrymandered districts that were found unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court; signed into law an abortion ban that (according to sworn affidavits) has forced two more underage victims to go outside Ohio to terminate pregnancies caused by rape; and now refuses to even debate challenger Nan Whaley.

It's time for a change.

Ohioans deserve better.
