The Knoxville School Board approved offering a high school girls wrestling team this year. It was announced at the board meeting that at least four girls from Knoxville are interested in trying out for the team.

Knoxville Business Manager Craig Mobley tells KNIA/KRLS News about the sport, “The Iowa High School Athletic Union has officially recognized girls wrestling as an official sport for them. The unfortunate part of it is that Knoxville wouldn’t be able to field an entire full team on our own. So, we’re working with the Pella Community School District to share that program.”

Knoxville students interested in the sport will join members of the Pella girls team this year. Pella has already hired a coach and at this time the cost for the Knoxville School District would be busing the students to and from Pella.
